Gara Campaign Setting
Elves are an endangered species. Their native forest spanning the Shayrian Peninsula inexplicably turned wild. Where once were beautifully tended gardens dedicated to the goddess Shalenari, now there is only dense underbrush and feral beasts. Nearly all elven settlements within the boundary of the woods were set upon with no warning. Some few cities with capable warriors held out longer than others, but in the end were unable to stem the sudden tide of nature’s wrath. Survivors fled the forest and were taken in as refugees among the other nations. Most found homes among the humans, but some have set up residence in the Foreign Quarter of Boktaria or the Goblin Isles.
Elven society is divided into two camps: those who believe they should repopulate their race to rebuild the pure bloodlines, and those who believe the compatibility with humans is a sign that the gods may have other plans for their future. Where such pairings were rare in the past, half-elves are beginning to outnumber the remaining pure blooded elven people.
Elves generally have no outward racial prejudices or hostilities.
