Gara Campaign Setting
While the civilized regions of the known world are all located in a somewhat temperate climate, varied weather patterns can be found throughout the explored land. In general, weather conditions blow in from the south-west during Planting and Tending, and come down from the north-west in Harvest and Sharing.
The Goblin Isles, though north of nearly all other inhabited regions enjoy unusually mild Sharing weather due to the prevailing currents constantly bringing warmer ocean water up from the south-west. The occasional earthquake and resulting tsunami are often less worrisome for the semi-aquatic natives than it would be for others.
The northern mountains, by comparison, are dreadfully cold almost year-round. Rarely do the peaks thaw, leaving snow-capped crowns on the dominant feature of the civilized horizon. Only the inhabitants of Mt. Gnomik or the stoic dwarves living deep under the range seem unphased by the blizzards which can close off passes and game trails for months at a time.
Planting snow thaw in the northern mountains often swells the Vaelle and Goban Rivers for weeks and can sometimes rise high enough to cause trouble for the settlements found near Lake Meriwald and along the lesser Vaelle, though the cities and villages along the greater Vaelle have long ago reinforced their banks with stone and sand walls.
The frontier lands east of the great river often see massive tornadoes sweeping through the grasslands during the Planting and Tending seasons. Rainstorms are prevalent and small inland lakes sometimes form as a result of them. These lakes quickly recede, forming marshy patches stretching for miles in an otherwise flat featureless region. Certain areas near the Wispwood have higher concentrations of sand in the soil, forming quicksand patches instead.
